It does not get much better than sailing over to Formentera on a boat for the day. With the Formentera Explorer, you can turn this dream into reality almost every day of the week.
Taking off from Marina Botafoch in Ibiza, a 55ft/17m catamaran awaits to take you on one of the most inviting day-trips you can imagine. Taking care of everything you need, this boat trip shows you one of the dreamiest beaches in the Mediterranean from the sea.
Far from the booming boat parties around, this delightful excursion brings to life a daytime activity where you can sit back, relax and play, all while taking in the beauty that the Pityusic Islands have to offer.
To top it all off, the Formentera Explorer is an all-inclusive excursion that costs a fraction of the price it would normally cost to go on such a boat-trip. Get ready for a day that will most likely go down as one of the highlights of your holiday.
We sailed over last week for five and a half hours of sailing pleasure. Here are three reasons why you need to make the Formentera Explorer part of your holiday or stay on Ibiza. Hop on.
Sailing from Ibiza to Formentera on a catamaran
Sailing over to Formentera and back takes around one hour each way. Never more than in this case is the trip as much part of the fun as the destination.
Leaving by 10:00 a.m. may be earlier than you would normally head out. As you depart the port of Ibiza, make sure to take in the stunning views of Dalt Vila, Marina Botafoch and the coast around Ibiza Town. It is not every day that you get to enjoy the view from this point of view.
Just to make sure you squeeze every little bit of fun in, the catamaran stops in front of Playa d'en Bossa for some water activities. Nothing spells vacation more than a wild ride on a banana boat, with people of all ages squealing with delight.
As the sailing continues, Es Cavallet, Las Salinas and Es Vedrà in the distance create the most stunning backdrop. All you have to do is lie back and take it all in, with a drink in your hand from the open bar.
With myriad spots to get comfortable on the catamaran, we chose the trampoline deck to breathe in the lovely day. Had a hard time and eventually gave in to being lulled into gentle sleep as the breeze and sunshine caressed our skin.
Swimming in the crystalline waters of Ses Illetes
Easily one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet, Playa de Ses Illetes in Formentera is a slice of beach heaven on earth. As the catamaran docked into some of the clearest and most distinctly aquamarine waters I have ever seen, we could not but stand amazed at all the beauty surrounding us.
Ses Illetes is a strip of sand that stretches out from Formentera towards Ibiza, creating a taste of the Caribbean and Polynesian beaches. This northernmost part of Ibiza's sister island is part of the Natural Park of Salinas, extending the beauty of the famous Ibiza beach.
While you do not get to swim out to the actual beach, enjoying it from the boat is just as enchanting, not to mention being surrounded by such crystalline water.
The water there is so clear and inviting that jumping and swimming in it was divine. With snorkelling equipment and inflatables provided onboard, we got to enjoy it to the fullest.
Enjoying a day of total leisure
While we enjoyed a day of complete relaxation and diversion, the crew took care of our every need. An open bar is available from beginning to end, with beer, soft drinks, cocktails and sangria.
During the Formentera stop, the aroma of paella, freshly made by the captain and the crew, greeted us as we got back onboard the catamaran. Even the veg among us were taken care of by letting the crew know ahead of time.
After yet another swim, we headed back to Ibiza. The crew distributed sliced fruit around the boat to pamper us even further.
As we sailed back, we could not have felt more pampered, some of us dancing to the rocking tunes, others sitting on the sides of the boat soaking in our surroundings, all of us sunkissed and elated by having had such a gorgeous day at sea.
