Fiesta time comes to Ibiza once more with a month of events to celebrate the patron saint of Santa Gertrudis, running from now until 4 December 2016. The festival this year is packed with music and sporting events, with more than a touch of Ibicenco traditions, with folk dancing and music.
On Saturday 12 November, the specially built village fiesta tent is the location for the tenth anniversary of La Movida, featuring DJs Petit and Vázquez, who will be serving up the best tunes from the ‘80s and ‘90s from 21.30 h. Look out also for an exclusive performance from Spanish icon of the ‘90s Chimo Bayo.
The music jewel in the crown comes on the main day of the fiesta on Wednesday 16 November, the patron saint's day, when you can also see a traditional Ball Pages folk dance at noon in the church square. When evening hits, Catalan folk rock outfit Projecte Mut will also be celebrating its 10 years of successes with some of their greatest career hits. They will be supported by local band Morning Drivers, who start from 20.30 h in the main tent.
You can also catch a Bon Jovi tribute band followed by performances from Ibiza DJ (Jordi Tur), saxophonist Dani Duran and violinist Santi Bonet on Saturday 19 November, all starting from 21 h.
A slew of local soccer championships (trofeos de fútbol) can be seen in Santa Gertudis's football field right through to 26 November 2016 - check the programme for full details. The 26th is also the day for the “Cursa de Sa Sobrassada”, not a sausage making competition, but a road race. You can register to take part in your chosen category up till 24 October (Note: link in Spanish).
A load of free fun and activities to get your teeth into - time to your book your Ibiza winter holiday!
