Insider's tips - Figueretas

The altogether more chilled-out alternative to wild-child sister Playa d’en Bossa, take a deep breath, relax and welcome to completely attitude-free Figueretas!.

I love Figueretas. There, i've said it. I'll admit whilst I was thinking about this article, I pondered upon the reasons why that is. After all, Ibiza is full of amazing beaches. What's so lovable about Figueretas?

At the time, I happened to be chatting with Spotlight's good friends, We Love.. and Boutique Hostal Salinas residents, David Phillips and Daisy Heartbreaker.

“You guys have lived here in Ibiza for decades, what do you like about Figueretas?” I asked, curiously wondering if their reasons would be the same as mine.

"I really like Figueretas," enthused Dasy. "It's the most beautiful little beach and the nearest to Ibiza town. It's very multicultural and I LOVE its 'alternative vibe' too, visitors can find a bunch of different shops & restaurants for people with different tastes in music, food, and bars."

“Yeh, it's definitely on the up-and-up at the moment too,” added David. The streets in front of the beach around Es Vive are becoming very cool zones. Lots of nice new venues and businesses setting up around there. It keeps getting better.”

Interesting! I had actually been thinking of entirely different reasons to love Figueretas.

For example, it boasts stunning views of Dalt Vila to the left, whilst next-door to the right stretch the golden sands and parties of playful Playa d'en Bossa, with Salinas glimmering white in the distance.

The beach itself is pristine, sandy and although busy, certainly not hectic, even during August. And as Daisy commented, the beach's beautiful, palm-fringed promenade twinkles with a wonderful array of good quality yet affordable eateries.

An area traditionally popular with Italian visitors, there are numerous genuine, well-established Italian pizzerias (serving home-made Limoncello!) if you walk to the left as you enter the beach.

The day I took my stroll however, I plumped for the new, elegant Sushi bar, Yokubo, located to the right, just below the ever popular Ibiza Playa Hotel. Run entirely by female staff that day, I was glad I did. Check the crispy chicken noodles, mmm! Nice wine list too, Pinot-noir by the glass was a delightfully rare find!

And live music lovers take note. To the right of the Sushi bar, behind an innocent enough looking doorway, lies the new home of Ibiza's live funk, soul and nu-disco scene, Studio 24 @ Club Somni (see previous article here.)

The beach itself is classic Ibiza. Relaxed, cosmopolitan and beautiful. It also has what I can only describe as a wonderfully down-to-earth feeling about it. Not quite as fashion conscious as Talamanca, nor as loud and colourful as Playa d'en Bossa, it ends up sitting nicely in a refreshing oasis of attitude-free simplicity and sunshine.

Figueretas attracts a really well-mixed, international crowd. Think mature clubbers who like to be close to the action but prefer to dip in and out of it whilst enjoying an altogether more chilled-out vibe in-between.

As mentioned, the area is very popular with Italian visitors. But you'll also find a good amount of British, Scandinavian, Spanish, Dutch and French aficionados too, largely thanks to the good quality hotels in the area.

You do find younger families around here with babies, although it's fair to say that the facilities are more geared towards adults. The local nightlife caters to this, with nearby adult-only hotel Es Vive providing some lush line-ups at their one-off exclusive events (which luminaries such as Carl Cox have been known to show up to).

Its proximity to both Playa d'en Bossa to the right and Ibiza Town to the left is without doubt a massive attraction. It's literally a 15-20 minute stroll to either. Being quieter than Playa d'en Bossa and more affordable than Ibiza Town, it gets a big tick from many savvy holiday-makers for those very reasons.

When you add the fact that Figueretas has its own small port where you can either catch a ferry to neighbouring Formentera or jump onto one of the big Beautiful People boat parties that depart from there, this fab Ibiza beach becomes more and more attractive. Hot Tip: Beautiful People opening boat party this Monday June 23rd, book tickets online right here!
