Sa Punta is situated in Talamanca. Long associated with legendary Ibiza club Pacha and a classic celebrity hang-out, my expectations were high. I was not disappointed. In fact, my expectations were magnificently exceeded. Read on, Ibiza lovers!
The Location
I had to park quite a way up the street – an indicator of the popularity of this impressively situated restaurant. Perched on the corner of the ruggedly beautiful Talamanca coastline, I stood for a moment, a little in awe of the spectacular view that unfolded before me. Beyond the deep blue of the Mediterranean arose Dalt Villa, the highest part of Ibiza Town, white and majestic on the opposite side of the bay.
Attention to Detail
A veritable fleet of yachts bobbed around as seagulls elegantly dive-bombed the sea and a smiling receptionist showed me to my table. I immediately noted the elegant table settings, the good quality, linen napkins, gleaming cutlery and polished wine-glasses. This attention to detail was to become evident throughout the entire evening.
The Roof Terrace
Before ordering, hands-on owner and charming manager Rodolphe invited us to try one of the bar’s mouth-watering cocktails up on the fabulous roof terrace. It was being used that night for a celebrity wedding party and wow! What a location! Rodolphe explained that he and his wife, Rita, who have run Sa Punta very successfully for 10 years specialize in special events such as weddings. Heads up, Ibiza lovers! If you really want to impress the in-laws, take note!
The Menu
We discussed the quite frankly sumptuous sounding, modern, international menu with Rodolphe, who specifically asked my companion and I whether we had any food allergies or preferences to consider. I was once again impressed as every possible comfort was thoughtfully considered and attended to. Vegetarians were very well catered for and the kitchen, we were told, was very flexible and could adjust many dishes according to the needs of their guests.
Whilst we waited for our first dishes, we were presented with a surprisingly wide selection of different breads, plump Italian olives and creamy ali-oli. The house red was extremely good quality and so attentive was the service that I do not remember once having to fill my own glass all evening.
The Cuisine
My starter of wild seabass carpaccio with tiny, succulent, red Ibiza prawns and a citrus vinagarette arrived swiftly along with my companion’s razor shells with green asparagus, lemon confit and creamy almond. It was an absolute taste sensation. The carpaccio was wonderfully light and bursting with zing and the razor clams, dear lord, is that kind of oral pleasure legal?!
After restraining a strong urge to lick my plate clean it was thankfully whisked away. 7 minutes later our mains arrived. Free range baby chicken for my companion and for me, Alaska black cod with a sake glaze. The chicken, expertly carved for us at the table, was as perfectly cooked as a chicken can be. Mouth-wateringly tender and moist on the inside, wonderfully flavoursome and lightly seasoned on the outside. This delicate, difficult to achieve balance is the result of a double cooking method explained Rodolphe. The chicken, furthermore, is always the finest free range chicken he can source. Top quality produce combined with extremely skilful, imaginative cooking and preparation. Wonderful.
The black cod was something else. It fell apart with a mere touch of the fork, its creamy white, delicate tasting flesh melting in my mouth, perfectly moist and absolutely delectable.
The Proposal
We then noticed some excitement at the neighbouring table. It was the delighted acceptance of a marriage proposal, right there in Sa Punta, Talamanca, beneath the gaze of the ancient castle with the moonlight reflecting on the sea! A massive 10/10 for grace, style and romance hereby awarded to Mr Paul Belton! Well there was much celebration and sharing of cake and we at Ibiza Spotlight would like (once again!) to wish the future Mr and Mrs Belton the most wondrously happy life together!
The Family
Owners Rodolphe and Rita, aside from being gifted restaurant professionals are also parents and they care enormously about providing quality food and fantastic facilities for the whole family. Therefore every Sunday is kid’s day and from 1-5pm, the whole rooftop terrace is dedicated to them. Think kid friendly menu, entertainment, interactive games, trampolines, face-painting and other gloriously fun stuff for the little ones. And yes, all whilst you sip a cocktail, admire the stunning views, understated finesse, and relax as the kids have fun. Like I remarked earlier, it’s all in the attention to detail. This Talamanca restaurant, dear diners, is 5 star. Delightfully accessible to mere mortals like you and I. I adored it. Go and treat yourself to some genuine Ibiza class.
