A new musical season opened last week in Santa Eulalia when, on Friday evenings throughout May, June and July, the town's Teatro España will host live concerts starting at 21.00.
It's an initiative by the council to promote the use of the theatre, which was recently refurbished to modern standards, not only as a cinema, but also as a small concert hall.
I missed the first concert last week – holidays is the best excuse I can muster – but there are still eight remaining in the following order
May 18 - Carlos Cabrera
May 25 - Ibiza Jazz Quartet
June 01 - Grameline Groove (video)
June 08 - Swing & Dreams
June 15 - Ibiza Jazz Big Band
June 22 - Chris Martos
June 29 - Barbé & Doménech
July 06 – Íntim
Interestingly, the choice of artists very much reflects the more sedate style of Santa Eulalia and with some quiet Jazz, Blues, a little Latin and some modern classics is a total contrast to the big musical extravaganza taking place across the island in San Antonio with hip young youth idols like Sir Elton John and David Guetta.
