Tunes of the month | November

Our favourite releases from October.

Last month, we promised you that in November we would be able to chart some releases heard from the opening/closing parties. True to our word, we are going to do exactly that.

Although we've only had three short weeks of events, already there's a handful of clear, stand-out Ibiza 2021 tracks. Would you like to hear them? If you partied with us since 8 October, chance are you might already be familar.

Let's not waste any time and get stuck into the music. Cor, we've missed this!

Maya Jane Coles feat Claudia Kane | Run To You | I/AM/ME | 29 October

First though, we start off on something equally as topical. We don't think it's any coincidence that Maya Jane Coles chose to release her fourth LP around Halloween. A trailblazer as a visual artist and fashion icon, as well as a musician, she really embodies the individuality of the date.

Night Creature is an incredible body of work, and we're highlighting the single Run To You, which features the amazing vocal of regular collaborator Claudia Kane. Claudia appears on no less than four of the sixteen tracks. The video is worth checking-out too.

Nic Fanciulli & RETNA | This Is Life | Saved Records | 8 October

Label boss Nic Fanciulli and RETNA team up for This Is Life. The track has a rumbling low end and Afrom drums for a raw and intrusive dancefloor banger. Played everywhere this past week from Amnesia to Octan to DC10. A weapon of a track.

This narrowly pips GW Harrison's So Deep, also out this month on Saved. On the weight of its number of plays over closing weekend, we simply couldn't overlook it.

The Juan Maclean | Connected (TERR Remix) | Correspondant | 15 October

More deviant Disco next. There no such thing as too much Juan Maclean, nor TERR. Here the Correspondant familiar returns to give the former an extra layer of gleam. The pulsating bassline and Monika Heidemann's hypnotic vocals are enough to grab and hold our attention .

Lebanon Hanover | Living On The Edge (Ellen Allien 146 bpm Remix) | Bpitch |
22 October

Another remix next, and how about a bit of radical post-punk rave? Bpitch boss Ellen Allien has turned in three different version of darkwave outfit, Lebanon Hanover's Living On The Edge. The frantic 146 bpm remix is easily our favourite of the lot.

Two scenes collide in an explosion of anti-establishment rebellion. We love the result.

Saffron Stone & Dillon Nathaniel | Simple Minded | Solä | 8 October

Two emerging talents from either side of the pond link-up on our next entry, carving out Simple Minded on Solardo's Solä imprint. Low frequency and rolling groove - this is definitely going to tear up dancefloors.

Apparently there's more from Saffron Stone and Dillon Nathaniel on the way...

Ash Lauryn | Dancing In The D | FWM Entertainment | 29 October

Music producer and journalist Ash Lauryn puts the D in Detroit on her first full solo EP. Truth contains four straight-up House cuts. Gritty and real, just like her birthplace. We hope to hear lots more from the Motor City-raised talent in the near future.

Stephan Bodzin | Astronautin | Herzblot Recordings | 8 October

In terms of shelf-life, Stephan Bodzin's 2015-released Power Of Ten album is still played frequently in the Ibiza Spotlight office. Even so, we've been yearning for a follow-up. Six years later, our wish has been fulfilled.

Boavista finally dropped at the start of October - and it's been worth the wait. Now we just need to catch the new and improved live show. We encourage you to immerse yourself in all 17 tracks, but here's a taster in the form of Astronautin to pique your interest.

RÜFÜS DU SOL | On My Knees | Rose Avenue | 21 October

Sydney's favourite sons, RÜFÜS DU SOL are back with their latest album, Surrender. Once again the three-piece combine mournful lyrics with rave euphoria. It's the ideal long player to stick on and decompress to, if, like us, you're coming out of a slew of closing parties!

The entire album is ace, but On My Knees is a personal highlight. Proof that electronic music has a soul to bare.

Meduza feat Hozier | Tell It To My Heart | Universal Island Records | 29 October

Platinum-selling recording collective Meduza are back, and this time they've teamed with Take Me To Church singer Hozier for their latest single. Tell It To My Heart pairs sophisticated production with the featured artist's distinct vocal. Radio-friendly dance sure to make an impact.

Oden & Fatzo | Lauren | B1 Recordings | 8 October

Finally, another track that dominated the short Ibiza 2021 season was this beaut from Oden & Fatzo. East End Dubs chose it as his last track of the night at Octan, creating one of the most memorable scenes of the entire week in The Basement. It gives us shivers just recalling.

Rumour has it, the sample, taken from Men I Trust's track of the same name, took ages to clear. But, by golly, we're glad they perservered. Already timeless in our book.

Now that three crazy weeks of parties is over, excuse us for going a little off-radar, we're severely lacking match fitness!

Still want to indulge over some fresh music, why not give our latest album of the month a spin? We'll return with our next round of tunes of the month at the start of December. What goodies will the next few weeks unearth?

As ever, head to our Spotify channel to keep up to date with our listening habits.
