Hot new tracks for December 2020

Top releases from November.

Are you fed up of being bombarded with Christmas songs yet?

If you aren't already, then it's only a matter of time. We don't mean to sound like a Scrooge, but there's only so much jingle bells, sleigh rides and general yuletide cheer we can take in a single serving.

All we want for Christmas is a party! Please, Santa. But good things come to those who wait.

We've been patient long enough, so waiting a little longer now an exit is in sight isn't too much to ask. The dance floor will be waiting.

To cut through the carol deluge, here's ten tracks to take your mind off the impending festive run-in.

Black Coffee feat Jozzy | 10 Missed Calls | Ultra Music | 20 November

Roll out the red carpet. We start with the King of Saturday nights on Ibiza, who goes pop on his newest track. 10 Missed Calls was co-produced by Pharrell Williams, showing you what kind of circles Black Coffee is now rolling in.

In case you missed it, Black Coffee and all Hï Ibiza 2021 pre-sale tickets are online now.

Bedouin & Santiago Garcia | Bay Of Skaill | Human By Default | 6 November

Having just taken over Pacha's Friday night vacancy, Bedouin had big Ibiza 2020 plans thwarted by the pandemic. Disappointments aside, Rami & Tamer have lost none of their creative spark. The duo's signature nomadic sound is all over Bay Of Skaill with Santiago Garcia.

Fatboy Slim feat Roland Clark | Sunset 303 | Back To Mine | 6 November

First released in 2016, four years down the line Sunset 303 gets the edit treatment. Breaking the Fatboy Slim formula, the original was already more mellow than his usual output. In this newest version, an extra touch of poignancy has been added thanks to Roland Clark's spoken word.

How it came about is also a great story. Roland sent Norman a poem inspired by his experience of lockdown and he decided to use it on a track. It features on the new All Back To Mine, which Fatboy Slim compiled and mixed.

A Man Called Adam & José Padilla | Still Waters | Other Records | 6 November

It's already been more than a month since José Padilla lost his battle with colon cancer. Here the late icon collaborates with acid jazz practitioners A Man Called Adam. The posthumus release reminds us how The Catalino enhanced the natural wonder of our island through the simplicity of his music.

Calls to rename the San Antonio coastal paseo in his honour are picking up pace. We can't think of a more fitting tribute.

Maxwell D feat Against All Odds | Serious 2020 | Motown Records UK | 13 November

Maxwell D's grime original gets a 2020 update and becomes the first release on Motown's new UK sister label. A ringing endorsement on anybody's watch. Count the grime cameos: Tempa T, Novelist, Capo Lee… and the list goes on. Each artist contributes a new verse.

Serious 2020 will feature in a documentary on the genre, Against All Odds. Serious business.

Shimza feat Mikhaela Faye | Calling Out Your Name | Kunye | 6 November

Another of South Africa's biggest DJ exports finds his way onto our December list. Shimza launches new label project Kunye, with the goal of elevating the sound of his homeland. The overarching message behind the track takes aim at mankind's environmental impact.

Altern 8 | Hard Crew (Reinst8 Mix) | Self-released | 6 November

Time to get your rave on as we take the usual step of charting some hardcore! Mark Archer's seminal outfit Altern 8 dropped this comeback single nearly three decades after their last material.

Rocking masks and hazmat suits long before they were in fashion, it's great to have Altern 8 back with their distinct brand of hysteria.

Richie Hawtin | Time Stands Still | From Our Minds | 27 November

Hold the phone. New music from Richie Hawtin is rare and released under his own name, even rarer.

Apparently, it has been more than 20 years since his last “dance floor focused” EP. That claim might be hotly contested, but it's great to have the original technopreneur back and firing on all cylinders.

We prefer the B-side to Time Warps, which arrives on the new label From Our Minds.

Saytek | Temper Tantrum | Trax Records | 23 November

After outings on Superfreq, Detone and Awesome Soundwaves, Saytek chalks off his next career milestone by signing a five track EP to Chicago institution Trax Records. The hardware botherer is in fine form across the entire release, but MC707-penned Temper Tantrum is a peak hour tool we can't overlook.

Oh, and in case you didn't already know, this like all Saytek material was made on the fly - completely live. No wonder Carl Cox is such a fan.

SHOSH feat Kelsey | Feel Me | Nuvolve | 20 November

24 Hour Garage Girl SHOSH teams up with singer Kelsey on UKG jam Feel Me. The track comes as one of several releases to launch DJ EZ's new Nuvolve record label, which shares its name with his Ibiza Rocks' residency.

We suspect you might recognise a few of the locations in the video!

We'll be back in the new year with our highlights from December.
