Glitterbox makes sparkling return to Hï Ibiza

Get your sequins out.

As we're still trying to remove the remains of the glitter from our faces, we look back on Sunday night's opening when Glitterbox made its long-awaited return to Hï Ibiza. It was back and as sparkly as ever for the start of a massive 20-week schedule at the Playa d'en Bossa super-club.

If there's one thing we know about Glitterbox, it's that anything goes. The sky was the limit for the extravagant wardrobe choices. Partygoers certainly rose to the occasion, donning vast amounts of sequins and glitter.

With everyone was in high spirits and plenty of smiling faces, I immersed myself in the middle of the room to soak up the atmosphere.

Even a woman on crutches was holding one of them in the middle of the crowd and people proceeded to limbo underneath it. Not even a broken leg slowed down her party instinct.

The club was comfortably full, giving everyone just enough room to throw shapes into the air.

Glitterbox is one of those feel-good nights, the type of night you can sing along to songs you recognise and have a laugh with your mates.

On top of a first-class production and sass-fuelled performances, the music went beyond the disco genre I was expecting. Plenty of twists and turns into house and funk kept the night diverse and lively.

Early on in the Club Room, Melvo Baptiste played MD X-Press's God Make Me Phunky, which whetted the crowd's appetite for the evening.

Later, the classic Inner City Track Pennies From Heaven was one for the oldies of the crowd.

The highlight of the night, for me, came from Purple Disco Machine whose set was faultless from start to finish.

The German producer treated us to his own tunes alongside some familiar disco and funk bangers.

Tensnake's Coma Cat was music to our ears whilst the Soul Wax remix of Marie Davidson's Work It kept the crowd's heads bobbing.

Purple Disco Machine's own Body Funk came next which made the crowd lose control. The tune is now somewhat of a classic funk anthem. We felt obliged to sing along and punch the air as we did so.

At the same time, the sexily clad dancers didn't leave much to the imagination as they also did their thing up on the podiums.

We were given some more soulful vocals with the help of Hands Together (House of Omni Hands Together Extended Club Mix) by Gershon Jackson & Reset Preset.

Meanwhile - as everyone knows - the rave in the Hï Ibiza restrooms is also where the magic happens. The Wild Corner saw sets from DJ Pippi and Melon Bomb.

First Choice's I Can Show You (Phonk D Edit) and Soulsearcher's timeless Can't Get Enough were just two of the many tunes to grace the cubicles.

The overall nostalgia of the night was next to none. The no-one-gives-a-damn-what-we-look-like attitude makes you forget about real life for an evening. It's the perfect tonic to life.

At Glitterbox you can escape into a world of sequins and sparkles and no one can tell you what to do or who to be. If this fabulous shimmering party doesn't put you in a good mood, nothing else will.

If you missed it last night, you can catch Glitterbox on Sundays until 6 October, so you've got plenty of time to witness the magic.
