elrow kicks off the season at Amnesia

The craziest party on the planet blew the doors off the opening at Amnesia.

Fun, fun and more fun - that's what sums up elrow. For its opening at Amnesia, the theme was Chinese Row Year, a play on the Chinese Year of the Dog, and the fun was off the charts

As clubbers started arriving from 23:00, Pan Pot started cooking in the main room. This duo's DJ-style is relentless, driving and powerful. Engaging clubbers from the entree to the dessert, they served up their signature style of booming techno and tech house.

Huge booming tracks blasted the throngs of clubbers during their 6-hour set as the Elrow City actors interacted with the audience.

They had stilt-walking firefighters, a boxing ring with timed boxing matches, elrow policemen locking up naughty clubbers, homeless begging to hand you lucky chocolate coins as well as hot dog and pizza sellers.

Moving to the Terrace, the decor was jaw-dropping. Known for their spectacular sets, props and animation, elrow's Chinese Row Year took this up yet another notch. Massive Chinese dragons and snakes winded their way over and around the DJ booth, and that was only the beginning.

Giant Chinese noodle boxes with noodles spilling out, hanging lucky red lanterns, over-sized parasols dropped from the ceiling, Chinese temples and buddhas tucked every corner and a giant lucky waving cat sat purveying the action on stage - every inch of the room was decorated!

Along with awesome decor, elrow laid on a proper buffet of tech and tech house in the Terrace well. Bastian Bux, Steve Lawler alongside elrow regulars Technasia, Toni Varga and Marc Maya served up a vast array of tasty morsels, keeping the crowd wanting more!

We were lucky enough to catch up with Marc Maya to ask a few questions before his set to see what DJing for the craziest party on planet earth means to him.

What is the best part about playing at elrow?

Marc: The best part about playing at elrow is the people and the energy of the crowd.

I know you usually play at the end. Do you like playing last?

Marc: Yes, always. It's the best time!

What is your big drop track for tonight?

Marc: Probably Domino (Oxia). Can't wait!

As Marc took over from Tony Varga at the end, the Terrace was still packed. Huge blasts of red and gold confetti showered down on clubbers, propelled upwards by massive CO2 cannons. By now it was at least an inch deep on the floor.

The animation in the Terrace was also incredible. Over 30 actors took Chinese dragons through the crowd and fantastical oversized puppets of Chinese dogs and cats came walking through to interact with the audience.

Stilt walkers and aerialists entertained the audience, towering over them in crazy outfits and barreling down, suspended by bungee cables from the lofty ceiling, just above our heads.

As is elrow tradition, wacky toys, hats and inflatables were given out to the crowd, creating a true circus atmosphere. Here, the stars of the show are not only the DJs but also the people who come to their nights.

If you haven't heard about it by now, get yourself to Amnesia this season for one of the wackiest clubbing experiences on the planet.
