DJ Awards announce winner of 7th Bedroom Competition

With over 500 mixes submitted to the DJ Awards headquarters, a winner has finally emerged from the large pool.

The 20th anniversary of the DJ Awards is right around the corner. In the meantime, the winner of the 7th edition of the Bedroom DJ Competition has been announced. Launching in August in partnership with Mixcloud, the Bedroom DJ Competition went on the hunt for the some of the freshest undiscovered talent in the electronic music scene.

With over 562 mixes having been received at Mixcloud, the folks over at the DJ Awards have worked endlessly over the last four weeks to discover their latest star. The DJ Awards team even called upon their mentor Roger Sanchez to help make a decision. After listening to more than 17,000 minutes of feet-tapping music from all over the world, the jury has a winner.

In regards to choosing a winner, Roger said, “I made my selections based on technical precision, selection, flow and creative transitions and layering.”

With that being said, congratulations to this year's Bedroom DJ Competition, Abel Ortiz from Spain!

Born in 1987 in Madrid, Spain, Ortiz started his DJing career at the age of 15, mixing music on his PC and having his friends teach him how to use vinyl and mixers on the weekend. The Spaniard's uses three decks to mix in tribal percussion, ethnic sounds, house and tech-house to define his sound.

In addition to winning the trip of a lifetime to the White Isle for the Award ceremony at Hï Ibiza as VIP guest, Ortiz will play in one of Ibiza's iconic venues and take part in a masterclass with Roger Sanchez at the Ibiza Blau Music School. The lucky winner will also be playing a special mix on the DJ Awards Radio Show on Ibiza Global Radio at 22:00 (CET).
