David Vincent stands with Ibiza's female DJs

And he is looking for a women-only residency team at Sankeys Ibiza.

Ahead of the Ibiza season kicking off in a few months, promoters and club owners are making their own announcements to advertise their new proposals for this summer: new parties, huge line-ups, remodelled venues… But between this ocean of great and expected news, an official Facebook post has grabbed our attention. During this past weekend, David Vincent, owner of the Sankeys clubs, has appealed through social networks to every female DJ who lives on Ibiza to win a residency at his club on the island.

In his own words, the electronic music industry has never helped woman DJs on the same equal level as men. This gender inequality is not only present on the ‘Top 100 DJs'' lists that such publications as Resident Advisor and DJ Mag pull out once per year, but on the festival line-ups; for example, with the last Ultra Music Festival, only 6% of the artists were women. David also mentions the Ibiza residencies where the parties hosted by the female gender are a distinct minority.

"My aim is to change this right now and give back to some amazing females of this beautiful island.'' Vincent says. So for this reason he is looking for women to join the new Saturday Residency - Sankeys Sabados - that Sankeys Ibiza is launching for the 2016 season. A night ruled by female DJs. Those selected to be residenct with of course be all women and also living on Ibiza, supporting the local talent base.

From Spotlight we applaud and admire this proposal and we wish all the luck to the participants. It is good for the island to get some fresh air with new clubbing scenarios proving that music is not only made to hear and dance to but to improve the world we are living in.

Sankeys Sabados. 12 Saturdays only from 6th February to 22nd April.
