Top 10 DJ Instagrams

Ibiza may be hibernating but the DJ lifestyle goes on...

The life of a DJ can be a gruelling ordeal of jetlag, homesickness and unsociable working hours but, as these profiles indicate, it can also be a life of breath-taking sights, mind-blowing parties and um, Darth Vader Lego Figures (Guy Gerber, we are looking at you for that one).

In no particular order, here are our Top 10 Hashtag Humorous DJ Instagrams that you need to follow, aside from our very own Ibiza Spotlight Instagram, of course. Now go forth, and live vicariously!

CALVIN HARRIS (@calvinharris)
Why: The wee Scotsman delivers “Things that happen in my mind plus real events”. And then some.

From deadpan selfie videos to John Newman stumbling down a grassy hill, Harris has Insta-users ‘lol’ing at every upload. Need proof of his popularity? I noticed the EDM funnyman rack up 25.7k likes in two minutes on a snap of him in flip-down shades! With an eye for aesthetics and artsy oddness, it’s trippy and brain boggling 'grams galore. Check out the creep-adelic black and white vids including a man with a horse’s head.

Disclaimer: No John Newmans were hurt in the making of this Instagram. (We hope)

HOT SINCE 82 (@hotsince82)
Why: Cool as a cucumber Daley Padley (aka Hot Since 82) shares his “Snaps From the Road”

Hot Since 82’s Insta page is Knee Deep In smouldering shots, innovative album artwork, witty memes and general tour-life screenshots. Highlights include a winding-down Padley at home with a cup of Yorkshire tea (#privatehousepartyvibes) and a mischievous Padley complete with Ibiza’s most fashionable attire - glasses and a penis nose, of course (DC10 Warm –Up. #Paradise).

DIPLO (@diplo)
Why: The music chameleon sidesteps the usual ‘crowd pics’ in favour of a collage of comedy.

A collection of side-splitting selfies, shiny suits and Skrillex in a coonskin cap (yes, really) make up the picture patchwork that is Diplo’s Insta. The American’s sense of humour shines through thanks to his clever captions, random snaps and recent pumpkin carvings (think less Jack O Lantern and more, um, Weed Leaf). Cheeky chap Diplo is not afraid to throw cyber shade as he recently uploaded the iconic 20th Century Fox logo, replacing it with the words No One Cares in reference to DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list where he came in at 32. His #tbt offerings include a goat on a lead at a Major Lazer video shoot. A great mix Diplo, a great mix.

LOCO DICE (@locodiceofc)
Why: DJ stars + flash cars = a life we are jealous of.

So there’s Dice rolling with house gangster DJ Sneak as they cruise in his lowrider, Studio Sessions with Martin Buttrich and fresh trims with label-mate Hector in Aruba. Bonus points for spotting Chris Liebing and David Squillace and you’ve got yourself your very own DJ 'Where’s Wally'. Other highpoints include stunning aerial shots of Ibiza, Stussy tees, Jordan kicks and a bright birthday-present-Lamborghini from Hector again (he’s definitely in Dice’s good books!).

NICOLE MOUDABER (@nicolemoudaber)
Why: Odes to techno and travel shots.

Motivation memes like “Don’t count the days, make the days count” and “The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say I cannot do” scatter Moudaber’s page. There’s off-beat performance pics and funky gig vids as well as a terrific snap of a grinning Nile Rogers. #legend.

RICHIE HAWTIN (@richiehawtin)
Why: Personal photo news of ENTER.’s leading lord. “Uploaded by me, Rich.”

His black dot cult may stir up connotations of darkness and mystery but Mr Hawtin’s Instagram wall is surprisingly cheery. The globe-trotting techno prince shares pictures of his travels and experiences with a light hearted, fun spin. Want to see Hawtin in traditional Japanese attire throwing up a peace sign? Who doesn’t?! Or how about a grinning Hawtin stick his head through a hole in a photo board so it looks like he’s wearing an I Love Soba t-shirt? Yep, (as the caption reads) “Lovin’ it”. It’s great to see the Canadian’s merry personality and there are some brilliant shots of fellow tech heavyweight Sven Vaths 50th birthday.

GUY GERBER (@guygerber)
Why: A healthy mix of originality and imagination.

Gerber uploads anything from a lego Darth Vader riding a scooter to Seth Troxler in a questionable bandana. There are classic black and white shots juxtaposed with vibrant images of artwork at the Jonas Burgert Exhibition making his ‘gram an interesting cluster of creativity sprinkled lightly with snaps from classic cartoon The Simpsons.

SETH TROXLER (@stroxler)
Why: Playing in a Pope’s hat at Amnesia Closing Party was just the tip of the iceberg of Troxler’s sass.

Recently a photo of RnB royalty Jay Z and Bey standing in front of the Mona Lisa began circulating on the World Wide Web. It wasn’t long before the mischievous music maestro had edited the snap by replacing Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpiece with an equally impressive work of art; a picture of himself complete with two thumbs up and captioning it “hanging with my two biggest fans”. Again this is just a small slice of Seth’s superb social network sense of humour; you really need to check it out for yourself…

THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS (@thembros)
Why: Producers/DJs/trendsetters

The style-savvy duo display their super ‘dope’ lifestyle in a series of artistic shots of life on the road with the brothers’ outfits always on point. Always. Suave snaps of Paris Fashion Week with the hashtag GivenchyGang and an assortment of different hats in selfies indicate just how fashion-fresh this twosome is.

DILLON FRANCIS (@dillonfrancis)
Why: hashtag hilarious

Prepare to experience a load of WTFs, OMGs and LMAOs. Kitty lover Francis is the purrfect Insta-videographer. Catch clips of his hilarious snooty alter ego DJ Hanzel as well as an original approach to promoting his own album which includes asking his cat, James, his opinion. Other ‘gram gems include more cats and his face superimposed on an assortment of objects (The Pope, pickles, James the Cat again… yeah, you get the jist). Add some festival pics and Snapchat screen shots and voila. Warning: This Instagram is highly addictive.
