October is here and as the end of the Ibiza summer season comes to a glorious close, the beautiful, cosy autumn season begins. Whilst the days remain warm, the evenings become cooler, the pace slows right down and lazy evenings of lounging around, eating, drinking and watching films beckon alluringly on the horizon. Just some of the simple pleasures of autumn in Ibiza, dear reader.
Having a few film buffs in our midst, the Spotlight team were delighted to note the seasonal return of Black Door Cinema Club Ibiza. A cool, local cinema club which also encompasses an art gallery and event space, the venue recently showcased the brilliant street-art of Chapter, aka Scott Gray.
This intimate venue in Ibiza Town is a members-only club, offering free, online membership which then entitles you to buy tickets for their very tasty looking, twice-weekly winter line-up. It’s located on Calle Aragón, the street that runs behind and parallel to Avenida España. You can check this Map for the exact location.
The grand winter opening is on Tuesday 14th October at 9pm, kicking off the winter programme with Garden State, a coming-of-age romantic comedy starring Natalie Portman and Zach Braff.
This is swiftly followed by Paul Thomas Anderson’s low-key, edgy masterpiece Hard Eight at the same time on Thursday 16th October. Starring Samuel L Jackson and American rose, Gwyneth Paltrow in the uncharacteristic role of hard-bitten waitress and part-time prostitute, the film won wide critical acclaim back in 1996 when it was originally released.
To become a member of the Black Door Cinema Club, just register as a member on their website, where you’ll also be able to check the full winter schedule, watch the official trailers and book your tickets, which at €10 a pop are very reasonable! They also assure us that they have popcorn. Sold!
