Corona Sun Sets festivals

Corona brings its summer festival here to Ibiza in August.

It probably won't surprise you that here at Spotlight some of our all time favourite things include music, beer and the beach. So imagine out delight when the nice people over at Corona announced their plans for Corona Sun Sets - a whole summer of worldwide beach festivals, including here in Ibiza.

Joining Corona in this venture are EDM entertainment giants SFX and electronic music store Beatport, home to the world's largest DJ and electronic music community, making up a team more than qualified for the job. They revealed their exciting plans at this year's IMS, International Music Summit, held in the newest addition to Ibiza's skyline - The Hard Rock Hotel. Once they'd made the announcement they invited the audience of industry professionals out to the poolside for an afternoon soiree, where we got a taste of things to come with DJs pumping out summer tunes and a bar full of Corona based cocktails - which Spotlight can confirm are as good as they sound.

With Sun Sets, they are aiming to bring a new musical experience to our shores, an immersive venture who's purpose it to bring alive the Sound of the Beach, which they describe as 'a rolling bass, an uplifting melody and a soulful vocal'. As well as bringing in talent like Disclosure and MK to help capture this sound, they are also on the hunt for the next big superstar in global dance music, with their worldwide ultimate DJ competition.

With all entries now in, it is on to the next stage. After two rounds of voting, the six finalists will be flown out to Ibiza in August to compete for the ultimate prize that includes a main-stage set at the Corona Sun Sets closing festival in Ibiza on the 29th August, and five DJ appearances at SFX festivals in 2014-2015 - including the main stage at one major festival. Deciding the winner of this epic haul will be a judging panel of dance music royalty, Annie Mac, Claude Von Stroke and Cajmere.

The UK was the first place to get the Sound of the Beach treatment, and Weston Super-Mare's seafront was where it went down. Disclosure, Annie Mac and MK were joined by the likes of Eats Everything and Rob da Bank to bring the sounds of summer to England's west coast on Saturday 5th July.

The festival now moves on to Mexico's shores, with parties at Mamitas Beach Club in Playa del Carmen on 26th July, and then onto Acapulco on the 2nd August, before heading to Canada and Toronto's Hanlan's Island on 16th August, before finally wrapping things up here in Ibiza.

As well as planning for the parties themselves, Corona are also thinking ahead and planning for the aftermath of the celebrations. With the help of volunteers, they are going to be teaming up with conservation experts the Blue Flag Programme to help restore the beaches back to their pristine conditions after each festival.

We expect more details about the Ibiza leg of the summer antics soon, so grab a Corona, pass the lime and watch this space.
