Holi Garden Festival paint throw at Benimussa Park

The white isle gets colourful this summer; Holi Festival comes to Ibiza!.

This Wednesday will see Benimussa Park open its gates for the island's newest party, the Holi Garden Festival. The free-for-all party of colours, which originated in parts of South Asia as a Hindu celebration of colour, love and equality has gained popularity around the world, and is now being brought to Ibiza. For four dates this summer (18th June, 16th July, 13th August and, 3rd September) Benimussa Park (“the zoo”) will be welcoming an unusually paint-free crowd through its gates, but with five tons of powder paint and a whole lot of water at the ready, they'll make sure that isn't the case for long.

The festival traditionally celebrates the end of winter, and whilst the pink faces and packed party schedule in Ibiza would suggest that its a bit late to be celebrating that one, we can definitely get behind some of the other traditional meanings behind the festivities. In India the annual festival signifies equality, that for once a year everyone is equal, rich or poor, male or female, young or old. And with the VIP culture more evident in Ibiza than ever before, we think this sentiment works nicely here too.

But enough with all the serious stuff, lets face it, the main reason we'll be there on Wednesday is because it sounds like a whole load of fun. Partying under the Ibiza sun, covering your mates in paint, and all to the sounds of some world class DJs ... what's not to like?

The Holi Garden Festival has lined up a kaleidoscope of talent for this week's opening party, headlined by Italian DJ/producer Remo, with his underground techno and house. Joining Remo will be We Love... resident Ian Blevins bringing his Balearic sounds down from Space for the day, Ibiza veteran Jon Sa Trinxa with his distinctive brand of chilled-out beach-bar house, and no stranger to Benimussa's decks, Zoo's very own Milou.

Tickets cost just 35€, which includes entry and three colour bags to get you started. So come on Ibiza, let's get messy!
