Boats Ibiza, based in San Antonio, offer a wide range of boat charter packages from half-days to whole weeks. They have an impressive range of vessels ranging from small speed-boats to huge sailing boats and pretty much everything inbetween. When skipper Neil invited Ibiza Spotlight out one day to sample a typical cruise on his luxury x12 capacity Sunseeker motor-boat, we delightedly agreed!
We rocked up to San Antonio one gloriously sunny Ibiza morning to meet up with Neil at the Baleares ferry port terminal. There are two car-parks near the ferry port but beware they give you 2 hours maximum. It's worth parking on the big free car park on Calle Madrid, only a 2-3 min walk from the meeting point.
Luxurious
We were greeted with the biggest, friendliest smile I’ve seen on the island and set off together for the gleaming, white vessel which was to be our sea chariot! Removing our shoes, we entered the sumptuous white leather interior, the early morning sun glinting against the brilliantly polished chrome of the pristine fittings.
After a 5 minute safety brief and tour of the boat, we fired her up and began our slow cruise out of the San Antonio marina, heading north after a quick chat about options during the charter. Neil simply wants his guests to have “the day of their dreams” and is always happy to accommodate requests for specific locations.
To the front and back of the boat were spacious sun-lounging areas and Neil asked if we had an ipod with any favourite music? “I can just connect it to the boat’s sound system” he said. Really? I excitedly whipped out my trusty ipod and handed it over. Within seconds hey presto! I was singing along very badly to my fav 1970’s disco mix whilst gliding over the sparklingly transparent waters of the med. Oh yeh!
Amply Stocked Bar
Out came the bikini and moments later my right hand contained a blissfully chilled glass of cava from the amply stocked fridge. “All part of the service.” grinned Neil, a man who obviously enjoys his work!
The boat was equipped with every comfort imaginable. I could happily have stayed forever. Snorkels were provided, as was a small boat for trips to the shore. An underwater camera was also at our disposal should we have desired it.
Incredible Locations
Our first stop was Cala Gracioneta, one of the prettiest beaches on the west coast. After taking some gorgeous photos we continued on to a cove I have only ever seen wistfully on photographs. Surrounded by mountains and a sheer privilege to behold, it was the stunningly beautiful Es Portixol. Imagine cool, crystal-clear water, a couple of ancient, ramshackle fisherman’s huts and a completely private beach. The Ibiza location of your dreams, dear readers.
After a wonderfully refreshing swim, we reluctantly waved goodbye to paradise, continuing along to our final destination – Benirras and passing by a mysterious, private island close to San Miguel. “It’s available for private hire” confided Neil, filling my glass full of cava again. “One day...maybe...” I laughed hopefully. Well, we can dream!
A-Listers
“Does Boats Ibiza have any celebrity clients?” I cheekily enquired. “Well,” whispered Neil, leaning forward. “I could tell you, but then i’d have to kill you.” Much laughter ensued and later Neil admitted that yes, he has had the pleasure of entertaining many famous clients, from Dizzee Rascal and Abbey Clancy to Pendulum, the Kooks and Fern Cotton.
We arrived in Benirras, suntans improving by the minute, laughing and joking and thoroughly enjoying ourselves. It was magical seeing the famous Benirras rock known as the ‘Hand of God’ tower into view. We enjoyed a spot of diving and snorkelling, peeking below the surface of the perfectly clear water and seeing the myriad of marine life gliding nonchalantly by.
After swimming to shore and stopping off for a bite to eat at the fantastic Elements beach restaurant on Benirras beach, it was time to head back to San Antonio.
Astonishingly Good Value
Now for the best part. You might be forgiven for thinking that a boat-charter like this would need an A-list sized wallet. You would be wrong. A private charter with Boats Ibiza (including beer, wine, soft drinks, fuel, a captain and in some cases even water-sports) can be snapped up for as little as €63 measly euros per person! (based on a group of 12)
Considering that you can easily blow this much on a dubious pizza, a sun-bed on the beach and a few pints in San Antonio, I was astonished at this revelation! The word is out!
