On Tuesday 23rd April here in Ibiza, St George's Day will be being celebrated in true English style…the most fitting way, of course, to honour the Patron Saint of England.
Ibiza Lodge 44 are organising the St George's Day Ibiza Party, which will take place at Punta Es Moli, San Antonio, in aid of APNEEF, the Association of Children with Special Needs in Ibiza and Formentera.
Formed in 1998 by a group of parents determined to raise awareness of the problems faced by children with special needs and their families, APNEEF is a legally registered non-profit organisation committed to improving quality of life and helping with social integration. A whole host of programmes, services and activities are offered by the association to provide much needed support for the entire family of a child with special needs. These include speech therapy, music therapy, clay and mud workshops, equine therapy, and multi sensory stimulation to name just a few.
In addition to contributing to a worthy cause, the St George's Day Party promises to be an afternoon jam-packed with good, old-fashioned English fun and games for all the family, including 1066 King Harold Archery, 1666 Splat The Great Plague Rat, 1966 Beat the German Goalie, plus 6 Nations Football where England versus Rest of the World.
Live music will be provided by The Rolling Soul, Pixie, Backbeat, The Holics, Vinnie and Lauren Kaycee, with personal appearances by Madness's own Chas Smash and Guru "Infinity" Josh.
Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash and afternoon tea with homemake cakes will be being served, and you can buy beer and wine for just €1.00 at the all day bar.
The party runs from 3 pm until 10 pm and, if you are in Ibiza, is most definitely not to be missed.
Whilst the event is undoubtedly centred around an English theme, the organisers have not forgotten that St George's Day is also a Catalan tradition, and they are hoping to get the local population involved too with the giving of a book and a rose to a loved one.
