James Welsh ‘Craven EP’ / Futureboogie / Released March 10th
A deeply funky release from Welsh, worth it for the title track alone. A nicely sparse texture lets that nose-scrunching bassline do the walking and talking. Horse Fight and King Edward St are more upbeat and texturally padded out, whilst track title of the month goes to the smooth Bill Murray Came To My House Party (a dream we all share).
George Fitzgerald ‘Thinking of You’ / Hotflush / Released March 18th
Layered vocal loops, a dark and gravely bassline and that signature Fitzgerald syncopation, Thinking Of You is a solid return to Hotflush that will keep the kids dancing.
Jupiter Jazz ‘Good Girl’ / Ellum Audio / Released March 4th
Maceo Plex and Danny Daze got together to form Jupiter Jazz and made something pretty filthy. This is a nice cruising number for the clubbing after parties. Vocals are a bit rapey, but it’s all part of the charm.
Adeline ‘What You Got EP’ / Culprit / Released March 25th
Possibly coinciding with a well timed move to the deep house epicentre that is London at the minute, this Swedish lass is very quickly getting a lot of attention on the scene. This is a moody and atmospheric EP which will go down well in a variety of situations. Listen out for her well-blended original vocals.
Digitaria ‘Shine’ / Hot Creations / Released March 18th
Yes, this is exactly what you expect another Digitaria Hot Creations release to sound like, but don’t let that stop you enjoying that cruisy walking bassline, ethereal string pads and sexy vocals. When you’re onto a good thing…
Rhythm Operator ‘Anytime’ / Needwant / Released March 18th
A young producer with a lot of promise, if this release is anything to go by. Warm, rounded chimes, echoey vocals and an unstoppable hi hat will keep you on the hop whilst listening to this one.
Justin Timberlake ‘Suit and Tie (Four Tet remix)’ / Self Released March 11th
Four Tet has taken his carving knife to a track from Justin Timberlake’s much anticipated new album and it sounds cool as hell. A funky collage of JT vocals and a bit of percussion is all it took to perfect this soon-to-be dance floor hit.
Boddika and Joy Orbison ‘Fate’ / Nonplus / March 11th
One of the new bangers on the lauded debut Nonplus Compilation. Here label head Boddika and Joy Orbison combine forces to produce a teased out build up culminating in a forward pushing, slightly manic dance floor banger. Some nice solid heads down, hands up dark room raving here.
Yokoo feat. Seabourne ‘Rabbit Hole’ / Musik Gewinnt Freunde / Released March 11th
Rabbit Hole is the fourth track on the Various Artists Across the Borders EP out today on the label headed by Kollektive Turmstrasse. A haunting and melancholy vocal features throughout, with a long beat-less introduction and warbling underwater synths inducing a calm and hypnotic state before a relaxed beat kicks in.
Isolee ‘Allowance’ / Pampa / Released February 25th
Oops! How did that make it on here? Ok it might have been released four days too early but I’m sneaking this one on anyway. Allowance has been bringing beauty into dark techno holes all over Europe these past few weeks and it’s simply gorgeous. Conversely, have a look at the clip, it’s kind of f***ed up.
