The Mix
Talk us through the track selection of the mix.
"As I was making a 2 hour mix, I thought there was plenty of time to take you through the range of tracks I love to play, a sort of sunset through to sunrise mixture. I always believe a mix/set should take you on a journey and have a beginning, middle and end and not just be the same all the way through. This mix contains a lot of faves that I am playing now, with a few hints of classics in there too."
Where and how was the mix recorded?
"The mix was recorded live on my Traktor S4, in my little bedroom studio in Jersey."
Where does your inspiration come from considering there are so many different styles of music in the mix?
"I play what I enjoy, and what tunes get me going. I am fortunate to like most genres of house, and I'm spoilt to have such a pool of fantastic tunes to choose from! When I play out it depends on the venue and time I am playing as to what direction I take the music, but I guess I am inspired by great production, and by music that I think is special, be it deep house, tech or banging old skool!"
The Plug
What is keeping you busy at the moment?
"I am a busy bee in the studio creating original tracks at the minute, which I am really enjoying. Much like my mix shows, I am producing records that go along the scale from deep, vocal house, to tech. I am also playing out at gigs across the UK, at home in Jersey, and am about to play my first gig abroad since winning the BBC Radio 1 Superstar DJ competition last August, and played in the mecca, Ibiza."
You won a competition with BBC Radio 1 last year to play their Ushuaia and Privilege parties, how was that?
"I have to say I think it is only hitting me NOW just how amazing it was. After the most nerve-racking week of my life with Radio 1, and then flying out direct to Ibiza to play in my favourite club in the world (Ushuaia) and then the BIGGEST club in the world (Privilege), I think I was a bit overwhelmed with it all back then! And I am only realising just how lucky I was months later! But honestly, I couldn't be more thankful as it has given me the chance to start a whole new life changing career as a DJ."
You have a weekend off. What do you do? Where do you go?
"My weekend off most definitely starts with a lie in! (I'm a huge fan of bed/sleep!) I usually go and see my sister and brother in law who live 10 mins walk away. I have 2 beautiful nieces (aged 2 and 10 weeks) and can't get enough of them. Then I either stay in and wish I was going out... or go out and then regret it come Monday morning! Hahaha... shoulda caught up on sleep!"
What plans are in place for the coming year, will we see you play out in Ibiza again?
"The plan is for me to get some records released, and continue to grow as a DJ and get the chance to play more and more. My next goal is to get a record onto Beatport, and my second goal is to get one signed to Toolroom Records! (Bit of a dream... and I love Mark Knight!) I am not 100% confirmed for Ibiza just yet, but there are talks for something in the pipeline! Ibiza will definitely be seeing me at some point this year! I'm still suffering from Ibiza blues 7 months later! TAKE ME BACK!"
