Phew! It's official, Ibiza hotter than (insert the name of any small town in northern Europe) as the weather men reveal that our average temperature in July and August has gone up by 2 degrees centigrade over the last 30 years. Miguel Gili, of the State Meteorological Agency, explained that this could have happened for any number of reasons but didn't mention the trending words, global and warming.

Anoraks will be interested to know that our hottest day this year was Monday 6th August when temperatures hit 32.9 C at the airport, but with high humidity making it feel 2 or 3 degrees hotter – a bit like wind chill factor, but the other way round!
During the yellow alert for high temperatures last week people going out into the sun were advised to avoid sunstroke and dehydration by drinking water every 15 minutes, eating only light meals, wearing light, 'fresh' clothing (no anoraks please) and being in the company of other people.
One effect of the heat has been the increase in electricity consumption which for the first time in history exceeded the 200 megawatts mark as people cooled their houses to remain comfortable.
The 4 year old record of 199.3 Mw was smashed on 11th August when demand rose to 209.9 Mw, just as people put the kettle on after Mo Farah won gold in the 5000 metres!
