Not long ago we brought you the story of the rescue of the Maverick Dos, one of Balearia's ferries which was stuck on rocks on the way to Formentera. Well, Balearia returned the favour last night when the good ship Nixe rescued four people trapped on an inflatable Zodiac boat, broken down on the high seas.
The fast ferry Nixe is the biggest on the Ibiza to Formentera route and had set off from Ibiza at 20.30, when shortly after, alert crewmen spotted the flares of the zodiac crew, (I think that means rockets with bright lights rather than the bell bottom trousers popular amongst 19th century nautical coves!) and made a quick detour to haul them aboard.
The rescue only delayed the journey by 20 minutes and all the passengers, fare and non – fare paying, disembarked safely at La Savina at around 21.30.
