This summer Playa d'en Bossa club, Sankeys has upped its game by hosting not one but two opening parties, each with a solid line-up of the finest in underground talent. Their first party was held on Thursday night and featured Diynamic DJ Solomun, duo Tiefschwarz, Cocoon's Tobi Neumann, David August, Franco Cinelli, Julian Perez, Luis Groove and Molly as well as two infectious live sets from both Guti and Stimming.
Before the music had even surged through my ears the heat of the club hit me, with a heaving dance-floor and David August's set kicking off in the Basement the crowd was bouncing and the walls were wet with sweat. The room also featured colourful LED tube lighting which the original Sankeys in Manchester has, this was a nice addition to the production and lighting behind the DJ booth. The Diynamic Music DJ dropped his track 'Hamburg is for lovers' making the crowd get down to his deep bouncy bass and embrace the keyboard melodies, he also incorporated various mixes into his set such as Mylo's track 'Doctor pressure'.
Checking out the rest of the club I hung about in The Box for Tobi Neumann's set, which was of a slightly more up uplifting tempo. Exploring the club further I stumbled upon the third room, Spektrum, which had a wall of LED lights and in many ways was similar to the main room in DC10, although considerably smaller. With more space for you to dance around in comparison to the other two rooms - as well as being home to a 60 year old man wearing a 'Love life' T-shirt, the Spektrum room definitely was the more chilled out of the three.
Luckily I returned to the Basement in time to catch the end of Stimming's live set which had clearly created a new level of euphoria amongst the crowd and performing live from the booth added that extra special factor to the night. My personal favourite, Solomun then took over and provided a banging set filled with blinding tracks, basslines and the odd explosion of catchy vocals. Dropping Ben Pearce's track 'What I might do' made the crowd go insane making the dance-floor heat up with infectious rhythm. Performing to a red back drop and constantly interacting with the crowd. Solomun's whole set was not only hypnotic but also very intimate besides the pumping crowd.
Finishing off the first of the Sankeys opening parties in The Box room to Tiefschwarz's set, although only one of them was there from what I saw but nevertheless it was a perfect way to end an explosively deep night. Smashing out a remix of Stevie V's original track 'Dirty cash (Money talks)' went down very well with the crowd who were all loving life and absorbing the nostalgia that Tiefschwarz were playing.
Sankeys part 2 kicked off last night with the likes of Basement Jaxx, Booka Shade, Joy Orbison b2b Jackmaster, Mosca and Bones being let loose. Departure Ibiza also hosted Spektrum and brought with them Adam Shelton, Oliver Drops, Dan Sanders and Will Boyd.
