Recently we have featured a few articles on the history of Privilege back when everybody called it Ku, where we attempted to show you all how much of an impact the venue has had on the island and dance music culture. In the 70s and 80s as Ku, you saw everyone from Freddie Mercury to Grace Jones play the venue, then in the 90s it was the time of Manumission, and now Privilege offers a wild twist in music policy when compared to the rest of the island. Whether or not any of it is your bag, it is good to at least see something different in a market saturated with house and techno and also taking Privilege back into the great live music venue it used to be in the past.
The huge 10,000 capacity club is perfect for events that require space for huge shows, such as those you will see at Supermartxe, A State of Trance and the Tuesday night live shows that are shrouded under secrecy at the moment. The stage area now boasts a 140m2 LED screen, and the club has installed an impressive lighting rig around the club by the guys over at Impact World Special Effects. Sound wise, because of the sheer size of the venue, the club needs a very powerful soundsystem and this year, with an impressive new Funktion One soundsystem in gear, you're set to be to be blown away by it.
Big news this year is the addition of a new space to the side of the main room. Although not strictly a new space, they have knocked through the walls that separated the Coco Loco and La Vaca rooms to create the VISTA Club room. We had been allowed to sneak a peek when it still was under construction and boy, this dancefloor has a huge potential. You still have that organic feel on one side, with the trees in the middle of the room, which used to be the Coco Loco, and from the part of the room that used to be La Vaca, you get amazing views towards Ibiza Town - which in the end gave the new VISTA Club room its name! Imagine the sunrise over Ciutat Eivissa on a Sunday morning during the last hour of one of Elrow's Saturday night sessions...we honestly can't wait for this!
Privilege are seriously stepping their game up this year, leaving the 'play it safe' path and putting on some genuinely unique parties to ensure anyone and everyone who comes to the island has a reason to go to Privilege at least once. From trance to electro-minimal-pop, Privilege has got everything covered. "Privi" reopens on Friday 1st June - we've already talked about it, more info and tickets here. Now lets have a look at Privi's weekly menue:
A State of Trance – Mondays
Armin Van Buuren is the man taking over on Mondays, ensuring the trance genre is heavily represented on the island. There have been promises of a huge production in sound, lighting, and how the club looks for these events, bigger even than Armin's ASOT 550 Invasion tour. Great acts are lined up to support Armin such as Markus Schulz, Dash Berlin, Jochen Miller, Cosmic Gate, Orjan Nilsen, W & W, and more. Events kick off on 25th June and run until the 24th September.
Gatecrasher and Live Shows – Tuesdays
Tuesdays will see the return of both Gatecrasher and live concerts. Gatecrasher will be back at Privilege, which means trance music plays a big part in Privi's weekly menue this year! Gatecrasher dates and line ups to be announced soon. On the other hand, the islands ever increasing love of live music will be shown again, following on from a tradition in the 80s with Ku. Privilege haven't released any information as yet towards the lineups, however in previous years we have seen the likes of Snoop Dog, Jamiroquai, Underworld, Faithless, Moby, Moloko, Mika, Orbital, and Leftfield perform in the huge main room. Really, Privilege is made for big production gigs that make use of the stage area. Look out for lineup announcements as soon as we have them, of course with tickets as well.
Line ups and tickets available soon.
Party Rock Island – Wednesdays
The genre known as electropop will be the force behind the party each Wednesday during July and August at Privilege this year. LMFAO's Red Foo will be a prominent figure as a keen purveyor of these pop infused electro beats that the event is all about. Among his guest artists we already count with electropop quartet Far East Movement and the Dutch duo Bingo Players. Something wildly different from that being offered everywhere else on the island on that night (or even any night), and definitely good for a party...
Tickets here, line ups to be announced soon.
The Face of Ibiza – Thursdays
As we've said, this is the party with more attitude than a pair of Jimmy Choos on acid, where you can be barged out of the way by a gaggle of drag queens, get lip glossed by the bitch with big boobs stood next to you or just admire the creative genius behind it all - Baby Marcelo. Prepare yourself for some sexy, snazzy, happy and party vibe house music from DJ Oliver at this colorful party. Get yourself down and enjoy the extra special show every Thursday from the 21st June til' the 13th September.
Supermartxe – Fridays
Supermartxe offers one of the most impressive stage shows on the island each and every Friday from the 15th June til' the 21st September, and those who have been before can of course testify to it's popularity, regularly drawing in huge amounts of people whether their events are at Privilege or elsewhere. The general ethos of this gay-friendly party is to do everything on a large scale. The show, the stage, the club (of course), the music and the people. All over the top, all with lots of attitude and personality, and generally a huge amount of fun. The music leans more towards the commercial side of house than many of the parties on the island, so if you fancy a change and some incredible shows - get yourself down to Supermartxe.
Elrow Ibiza - Saturdays
As was discussed in the intro, the club has changed, and now offers the Vista club space alongside the main room. This space will host a new Saturday night called Elrow Ibiza, providing some of the best 'tech-house and electro-minimal- music of the season', bringing the same vibe from their infamous parties back in Barcelona. The events run for 13 Saturdays from 23rd June to 15th September. Line ups still to be announced, but we're really excited for this one!
Line ups and tickets available soon.
Don’t Let Daddy Know – Sundays
DLDK is a huge event straight from Holland taking over the Sunday slot from last year's Privilege Live events. They ask important questions - "Don't let Daddy know, Who is Daddy? Your parents, the government, your lover, your boss or teacher, your favourite artist or DJ?" - and intend tyo answer them via the medium of Hip-Hop. Booked artist's so far include Nicki Minaj, Steve Aoki, Lil' John, and Wiz Khalifa. Stay tuned for the complete line up!
Rock Nights - 6 Dates
Rock Nights celebrate their 7th anniversary this summer and Privilege is their new home. Starring acts like The Glimmers, Digitalism, Kaiser Chiefs, The Whip and Peter Hook (from New Order), Rock Nights is another exciting addition to this year's Privilege program!
