Have you ever heard of the Michelin Star awards for restaurants? Basically the idea is that if a restaurant is good (quality of food, mastery of technique etc) then the restaurant received 1
star.
If it was very good, it received two stars, indicating it was worth detouring to the venue.
Cue Aura. A couple of years ago I’d have rather chewed a tyre than go to Aura. The emphasis however is on ‘a couple of years ago’ as Aura has, particularly over the last three years done
the most extraordinary about-turn.
So it was that I found myself looking forward to the 2012 Opening last Friday. Indeed I felt a little sorry for anyone who couldn’t make it. I need not have worried however as walking in, the
guests read like an international “Who’s who”, albeit highly eclectic in true Ibiza fashion. Everyone from Sam Howell (powerhouse behind Bio-Link Networking) to Soraya Khalje, the USA Women’s
Downhill Mountain Bike Champion had rocked up, not to mention many of Ibiza’s key players.
Soraya Khalje & friends. Aura Opening 2012
Hayden Trethewy, Managing Director, was of course present and despite the enormity of the occasion looked relaxed, effortlessly making time for everyone. Chris Edwardes, (Beverage Director &
internationally renowned cocktail guru) was unassumingly behind the bar, whizzing up his 24 carat cocktails.
A chic, laid back crowd with the gorgeous outdoor dining area covered by a magnificent canopy gave air to walking into an enchanted garden. Perfect for quiet romantic dinners to fabulous social
gatherings Aura is absolutely a venue to know.
Not content to rest on their now lofty laurels, the 2012 Opening introduced Auras new menu and the jungle drums were beating weeks in advance right across the White Isle (that I’ll tell you about
personally next week as I’m dining there over the next couple of days but the feedback so far has been superb!)
Looking ahead, with an already seriously successful team in place, Wax Da Jam from NightMares on Wax will be stepping in on Tuesdays and island favourite DJ Antz returns, bringing his unique zing
to Friday nights.
The Opening Night was to all who attended well worth clearing the diary for. Had someone offered me a tyre this year, I’d have said a hearty ‘thank you’ and rather than chew it, used it to get to
one of the coolest Opening events of 2012. Heck, I’d have walked there if I’d had to.
A definite ‘know this, know Ibiza’ venue.
