The Spanish low cost airline Vueling is to start direct flights from Moscow to Ibiza this summer for the first time. Previously, Russians wanting to take holidays in Ibiza have had to change at Barcelona, and Vueling chiefs had noticed the high numbers of passengers doing this, which they considered justification for putting on a direct flight.
The service – one flight per week - will only run through the high season months, June to September, whilst flights from Moscow to Palma will run three times a week. Airline bosses hope to achieve at least 80% capacity on the 180 seater planes on the route.
The Russian holiday market is seen as very important these days and Ibiza tourist bosses were out in Moscow at a big travel trade fair recently encouraging the Russians to visit the White Isle. If they needed any help they could have taken a peek at Ibiza Spotlight's Russian website which has been up and running for a few years now.
