Ibiza Virgins: Hidden treasures of San Antonio

Don't just follow the crowds... Ibiza holds the key to many hidden treasures, and here we explore what San Antonio has to offer...

Pinet playa aka. Reggae beach

The bay of San Antonio is a beautiful place to explore and with many beaches and bars along the way you won't be short of things to do. You certainly won’t be the first to suddenly discover what resembles a beach in the Caribbean when you find yourself on Pinet playa, home to the Global Reggae bar. Often referred to as Reggae beach for obvious reasons such as high flying Ethiopian red, yellow and green flags, a small Jamaican cocktail bar and a fitting Bob Marley soundtrack it is definitely a beach with a difference.

Stumbling across Pinet playa is a rather surreal experience but the unique beach fits in perfectly to the bazaar world of Ibiza. On a Sunday afternoon you will even find a true Jamaican style BBQ serving Jerk chicken, rice and peas for a very reasonable price. If you aren’t the keenest of walkers then you can jump onboard the water taxi which offers a very frequent service and runs from San Antonio town to the beach.

Cala Gracio

Cala Gracio beach is a short walk from San Antonio and once you arrive on the golden sands you immediately feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of the main town. With its very own restaurant serving anything from egg and chips to authentic paella this beach is a great escape from the other busier beaches in and around San Antonio. With crystal clear waters and beautiful scenery surrounding Cala Gracio you can’t go wrong and the tranquility of the beach is priceless.

Perfectly tucked away and set against a leafy backdrop, Cala Gracio really feels a million miles away from any tourist resort. There are however several restaurants in the area such as the Tapas bar at El Coto apartments and the restaurant along the coastal footpath which serves freshly caught fish all day.

How to get there: Easily accessed by car or foot Cala Gracio is just 2km outside of San Antonio.

Cala D'Hort

This beautiful beach is south of San Antonio and a short drive from San José or Cala Vadella, overlooking the mysterious island of Es Vedra. There is a beach-boutique which opens throughout summer selling a range of designer swimwear. So not only does the beach lie in one of Ibiza's most unique settings it also has an air of chicness to it which makes it even more appealing.

Aside from the magnificent scenery which Cala D'Hort has to offer there are also three local restaurants that you can go to for a bite to eat. Two sit alongside the beach whilst the other, Es Boldado can be found on the road used to access Cala D'Hort. Serving traditional Ibizan food and set against breathtaking views, Es Boldado is definitely one of the White Isle's hidden gems.

How to get there: Cala D'Hort is only reachable by car, follow signs from San José and be sure to set off early to guarantee yourself a parking space.
