Kylie at Ibiza Rocks.....but where is Gossip Girl?
To quote the words Mark Ronson told me a couple of weeks ago ‘The thing I love about Ibiza is you can go to clubs and do the party side of things, or you can go and find some incredible isolated beach and just... eat fish!’ is dead on. Ibiza has a really spiritual, earthy, natural and bohemian side to it; the ying to this yang is of course the uninhibited, wild, pleasure-seeking, party all day, all night aspect. And then you bump into the unexpected, things that stop you in your track, or veer you off course... or maybe even put you onto your right life course. Making new friends and ending up on a giant yacht heading towards Formentera, meeting the partner of your dreams (lots of relationships are initiated in Ibiza), or finding the job of your desires and not getting that return flight home, are all regular occurrences on this mystical island. Anything is possible. I remember on my first holiday over here befriending Judge Jules’ wife Amanda, who then proceeded to let me and my pal join her and Jules at their VIP table for Judgement Sunday. I was seventeen at the time and their generosity literally made my holiday, looking back it probable made my year.
Last Wednesday I experienced the islands full works as my day began with a ying and throughout the night, I ended up far too yanged...It began with the ‘tranquilo’ when a very kind lady with the most incredible skin gave me a free facial using Dr Hauschka products. She’s on the island to promote the range and to make it more widely available in Ibiza. If you’re a fan of what is considered to be one of the purest most organic range of skin care products, you can purchase from Herbes Coses in the old market, Ibiza Town and also book in for a free consultation, as I experienced, to learn exactly what products you need for your skin type.
Following this unexpected treat, with my new glowing complexion, I took myself off to San Antonio and hit the Sunset strip. Arriving at my favourite time of day, 6pm and pre sunset, I had the luxury of my choice of tables at any of Ibiza’s most renowned ‘sea cafes’ - Savannah, Cafe Del Mar and Mambo. I went for the middle option, Del Mar, and met up with an old girlfriend for a coffee and long overdue gossip, and it was bliss! I’d almost forgotten how nice it is to feel the warm sun on your face, look out at a crystal, sparkling blue ocean and listen to Del Mar’s chill out soundtracks, which are recognised and favoured worldwide. It again hit me how lucky I am to be here, especially when I think of friends back home in office jobs they hate, living to work instead of working to live. Of course as the sun comes down the whole strip gets packed, but the vibe remains chilled and everyone applauds the descending sun, one of the nicest traditions this island maintains. Then the pre parties get started and people disappear and reappear glammed up to the max and ready to hit the town.
For me, I’m not going far; I decide to go to Tinie Tempah’s concert at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, which was rammed to the max. My persona went from relaxed to manic within about ten minutes of stepping foot inside. Tinie was bounding all over the stage, clearly a fan of Ibiza and having a ball, even performing the track ‘Invincible’ from some unsuspecting tourists’ hotel balcony that overlooked the stage. When he performed club hit ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ the place went off, it was bonkers! A petit pop princess that wasn’t stood too far away from me in VIP, was also having the time of her life, none other than Kylie Minogue. She was jumping up and down, hands in the air, loving it. She managed to remain un-noticed by the crowd downstairs until it was time for Tinie’s encore to which she had then been spotted and everyone started chanting her name and taking pictures. She good naturedly smiled and waved (I’d heard she’d been rather stand offish at Carl Cox’s birthday do at Space the night before) and boy, does she know how to pick her men. Whilst most were ogling Miss Minogue, I confess I was drooling at the site of her model boyfriend Andres Velencoso... Swoon.
I managed to wangle myself into the private aftershow which is held every week at the Ibiza Rocks House (Pikes), where Kylie and Andres were also present. I also spotted Annie Mac here chatting to James Corden who looked as cheerful and cuddly as you’d expect the funny man actor to be. He’d gotten mobbed at the Tinie gig, as had the man himself, with young girls screaming, even crying, and reaching out trying to touch Tinie as he was ushered into his dressing room.
I don’t think I’ve ever been that overwhelmed and lost my cool in such a way for an artist. Hmm. Nope, not that I can think of. But then I guess there’s still time. Almost two more months of carnage to go.............
