After having one of my best nights at this party last year I had both high hopes and expectations, and after catching the free bus from San Antonio and being greeted by a quick moving queue, so far so good.
As expected Amnesia was rammed packed within an hour or less, and with even the walls sweating I knew it was going to be one of those ‘shove your hair up’ nights. My first taste of the night to come was Union, who in a word are nuts, going absolutely crazy in Amnesia’s Mixmag Terrace. They began their set with some crazy electro and later went onto launching a dubstep frenzy. Their passion alone could have been responsible for the buzz in the room and certainly made way for the awaited arrival of Laidback Luke.
Not wanting to miss too much from either room I split my time and the main room's atmosphere was noticeably different with a sea of hardcore ravers with a wider age range rowdily having it large to Sander Van Doorn who was smashing out proggy-trance. The difference between the two rooms wasn’t subtle, yet both rooms were heaving and clubbers appeared to be having a good time.
I returned to the terrace once the main room got a bit too crazy even for me, and with a set time earlier than I had thought, Laidback Luke took to the terrace soon after 2.30am. The whole terrace went pretty crazy when he took to the decks and his set went on to be a combination of hits, such as, Adele’s Rolling in the deep, Swedish House Mafia’s Save the World and Mylo’s Drop the pressure and electro tracks.
Rivalling Laidback was Paul Van Dyk in the main room and with every inch of floor covered and a crazy lightshow the trance vibe was at a high. Even Tiesto made a surprise appearance from the VIP balcony and his acknowledgement of the fans below released a new level of energy on the already fanatic dance floor.
With 15 dates throughout the season including five Super You&Me sets with Laidback Luke and secured cameos from Deadmau5, Wolfgang Gartner, Eddie Halliwell, Above and Beyond and Calvin Harris Cream will definitely be hosting some amazing parties this summer.
