Beached Boats on Ibiza Beaches

It seems like years ago when Spotlight News brought you the story of the good ship Drass.

It seems like years ago when Spotlight News brought you the story of the good ship Drass which had been beached in the bay of San Antonio. The grand plan to move it before the summer season surprisingly never came to fruition and even more surprisingly has been postponed until next year.

It seems that the coastal authorities, who were originally going to move the Drass and its companion, don't have the money any more and so will have to wait until 2011 when the budget will allow the job to be completed/started. There's a slight change of plan as the intention now is to break the Drass into pieces in situ which means the beach will be closed for a fortnight. They've promised to do this before summer. We'll see.

Down at Salinas, violent storms and high winds have exposed the wreck of a large salt barge which became marooned on the beach near Guarana about 50 years ago during a similar storm in the early 60's. In those days there was no jetty at the salt works for the tankers to moor at, so barges used to transport the salt to them as they anchored in deeper waters. It was this incident that provoked the building of the jetty which is still used today.
