There's a possibility that for the first time ever, Ibiza airport will see 5 million passengers passing through its portals. Last year 4,572,819 passengers (arrivals and departures) used the airport and this numbers has already been exceeded this year on the 8th October.
Incredibly, just less than half of this total is accounted for in just two months, July and August, with over one million passengers in August alone! This makes hard work for airport staff who are dealing with 35,000 people a day during the week and around 50,000 a day at weekend – statistics usually associated with much bigger airports.
The budget airlines have played their part in not only the rise in passengers, but also a couple of major changes to the way we travel. More of us are coming to Ibiza, but we're staying for shorter periods of time and more conveniently, not arriving in the middle of the night as most charter flights used to do when the big tour companies controlled the airways.
