Subliminal Sessions at Pacha was by far my favourite night out in Ibiza, one which blew me away in terms of production, sound and atmosphere, something a small time DJ from New Zealand could only dream about till now.
The last leg of my European travels for 2010, and the one place I had been looking forward to most of all, was the small party island of Ibiza off the coast of Spain. Finally the time had come to enjoy what the island had to offer in terms of its unique nightlife and party atmosphere. Even before leaving London, Pacha was high on my hit list as one of the places to check out while in Ibiza. Booking online before our departure meant we were locked in securing our tickets for the Subliminal Sessions night.
Subliminal Sessions was my first night out in Ibiza and easily my favorite. Pacha has a unique atmosphere, a certain style and sophistication about the venue and this accompanied with the décor, lighting, exotic dancers and Subliminal branded event furnishings made it stand out in more ways than one.
We arrived shortly after 1am and at a time where things were just starting to heat up. Carl Kennedy was gracing the decks and we managed to catch the last few tracks of his set before one of my favorite house DJ’s, Eddie Thoneick set things alight. Eddie, famous for tracks such as Deeper Lover, Together as One and the 2006 hit, Love Sensation, is a producer I have followed closely since my inception as a DJ and music enthusiast. Eddie set Pacha on fire with a house set to rival the best. A smooth blend of what I would describe as big room house with the inclusion of beautiful vocal touches to help create that unique vibe.
Following on from Eddie was the infamous Erick Morillo, one of house music’s living legends and creator of the Subliminal empire. Eric tore Pacha apart and set the dance floor alight. Even the sound system seemed to come alive yet again. This combined with the lighting show, exotic go-go style dances and a stylish, sexy crowd really took my breath away. This was a true night for house music, and house music at its very best.
We also managed to check out one of the smaller rooms that was playing a range of funky house in a nice and relaxed atmosphere away from the now packed main room. This was a nice touch as it gave people that variety that some of the other clubs in Ibiza don’t have the luxury of, due to their set up.
Overall what a way to start my Ibiza experience, seeing 2 house music’s greats in a club that oozes style, sophistication, class and glamour with a distinctive difference to some of the other island hot spots. Finally the lad from New Zealand gets to experience what house music is really like out there.
