Ok so first things first, Sands is a new venture for 2009 and leading player in Playa D'en Bossa regeneration of swanky beach bars and hip hang outs. Located almost directly opposite Space, behind the Club Don Toni, the shack like building was called Ushuaïa in 2008 and has quickly become one of the places to have a bite to eat and/or shake a leg to some cool grooves. 2009 the Ushuaïa changed its location and the Sands Beach Club took over.
Part owned by Jason Bull (of Base Bar/Es Vive Hotel renown) Sands is almost the quintessential 21st century beach restaurant, with killer cocktails and juices, a tranquil setting and the most mouth wateringly tasty food prepared by Es Vive Hotel chef Luciano Scardaccione.
Here's what happened when I randomly turned up for lunch one day:
Things started well as we were seated and drinking a cool beer within the space of 2 minutes and the menu, of which I'd heard so much about, was getting the once over. Immediately the prices jumped out at me, mainly due to how reasonable they seemed. Blackboard menu below.....
The homemade burger the size of a house had been recommended to us, so we got that, as well as a Seabass with stir fry vegtables offering. Again, the service was really quick, probably no more than 5 minutes of the lazy sunny had passed before our food arrived.
I can quite easily say that the burger was the best I've ever eaten, the meat literally melted in my mouth it was that tender and succulent. The seabass was also excellent, served with a slightly tangy and spicy chinese sauce (see photo).
Feeling fairly stuffed by unbelievably tempted by the sound of desserts like homemade apple pie, cheesecake and banana split, we battled on through the most exquisite blueberry cheescake and toffee ice cream.
By this stage, the temptation of sleeping/snoozing it all on a double bed on the beach becomes too much, so take your bottle or rosé or your hierbas con hielo and relax whilst the bill comes.
And what a nice surprise it is as well, 2 adults enjoying wholesome, high quality food and the most delicious desserts with wine, coffee and other drinks and the bill didn't even top 60 euros.
Overall then, great food, great service, great location. I can hardly recommend it enough.
A few tips though, Sands is open from early (8am) for breakfast and funky tunes to help the hangover. There are special events held during the week hosted by the likes of Sonica, Jose Padilla and even Carl Cox who is spinning on 10th September. After sunset, things wind down meaning this is very much a daytime, sunny place to hang out.
