Ever wondered why Ibiza, the Mediterranean's most musically hip island has never bothered to enter the Eurovision song contest? No, and neither have we.
However, there's a chance that there'll be an Ibiza connection in the song writing capital of the world – Helsinki in Finland – this May. Rafa Tanit an Ibiza based song writer has not one, but two entries in the final ten songs from which the winner will be chosen by a national public vote. The songs 'Ley le Lee' and 'La Reina de la Noche' made it to the last ten after 200,000 people chose them via the internet.
Believe it or not, Spain has actually won the contest twice in the past – in 1968 with a song entitled 'La La La' and again the following year as part of a four way tie with the more lyrically complex 'Vivo Cantando.'
Fortunately for the Spanish, the competition is more about competing rather than winning, especially since Britain will be employing Stretford lad Stephen Morrisey to wipe the floor with the opposition on May 12th!
