All the signs at yesterday's Ibiza Charity fair to raise funds to combat cancer on the island point to a resounding success. Hundreds and hundreds of people flocked in through the doors of the big exhibition hall to enjoy a day of fun and entertainment with a serious purpose.
And it was Entertainment with a capital E during the entire day with professional acts - Phil Howell, Johnny Hocking and Samantha Irving, and 'Miss' Shape – performing alongside local dance schools in a musical extravaganza.
Add to this competitions for our four legged friends and their owners – the chihuahua jumping through hoops and over fences stole the show in the dog agility competition and the dalmatian preferred my mince pies to the obstacle course. As well there were demonstrations of martial arts from Brazil and the Far East, and the grand auction by island institution Casi Todo of goods donated by Ibiza's businesses.
All round the hall were stalls selling bric-a-brac, clothes, books and lots of delicious home made produce. With fairground attractions like hoopla, splat the rat, raffles, bingo, and play your cards right both young and old were kept amused all day. The biggest queues amongst the youngsters were for the pony rides and of course to see Papa Noel, as Santa Claus is known around these parts.
All in all a great day, made so by the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time freely for a really good cause. Well done everybody (especially the hard working staff on the food and drink bars) you were marvellous!
