There’s a story doing the Ibiza rounds about a man who goes into one of the Government offices here one afternoon and is surprised to find only the cleaning lady on duty.
"Don’t they work here in the afternoons?" he asks.
"No, they don’t come here in the afternoons, it’s just in the mornings when they don’t work here!" she quips in reply.
Which leads us nicely into a story about absenteeism in Government offices in Ibiza where an astonishing 38,744 ‘working’ days have been lost in the first six months of the year. Astonishing in so much as that the lack of a person snoozing behind a computer screen was actually noticed and even more astonishing is that a survey has been commissioned to see if stress was the cause of the absence.
In related news official statistics show that Monday is the busiest day of the week in Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza. Managers attribute the sudden influx of customers to stressed out worker drones - unable to face the prospect of floating round all day with a piece of paper in their hand - who come looking for an excuse to stay under the duvet after a weekend of fun and frolics.
