Just the very mention of the word ‘Ibiza’ conjures up images of discos and (yawn) the carefully choreographed hedonism by numbers during the island’s summer occupation by the forces of Bohemia.
However winter’s a different kettle of fish. This week every single ticket, over 1000 to be precise, for a forthcoming concert by El Barrio, sold out within ONE HOUR! El Who? Well José Luis Figuereo, a Flamenco singer who recently sold over 100,000 copies of his latest single is coming to San Jose to perform as El Barrio in the Garbi disco on 25th February. He follows the sell out performance of Chambao, another Flamenco band who packed the same venue last month.
Meanwhile in San Antonio, this Saturday sees the ‘closing party’ of the entertainment marquee which has stood in the fountains square since mid-December. With all proceeds going to charity they’re going to recreate all the parties which the marquee has hosted in two months – in just one night!
So look out for a mix of Flower Power, Country and Western and Mexican, with DJs, live music and a massive pork fry-up. All this for only €6 and it all goes to a good cause!
