Ibiza's environmental department has started its annual mosquito cull two months earlier than last year. The business of exterminating anything with more than two legs that flies has begun now because the pesky mozzies are at the larva stage of their development after the just ended rainy season, and are easier to eradicate using natural, bacterial agents.
The total cost of the operation to rid the island's humid areas of these little nuisances will cost a staggering €92,000 and will be concentrated in the main breeding grounds which include the area around the poplar Las Salinas beach. The department is confident that holidaymakers will, as usual, get maximum mosquito free pleasure at the beach as is proved by the vastly reduced number of the insects caught in the special traps laid around the site.
