The local police in San Jose have swooped on 7 bars in the borough over the last couple of weeks in response to 'denuncias' (complaints) from various people and 'precincted' the musical equipment of each one so no music can be played.
The official reason given is that these bars only possess a café-concierto license, which allows them to play music, but not to have people dancing, when quite clearly the establishments concerned have been operating as discotheques in all but name.
In the past the bars have been fined and then just kept on operating, now the police have decided that the no music policy is more effective. Whilst the bar owners are unhappy with their loss of income the neighbours in the vicinity are more than happy with the measures as is the Ibiza Discotheque Association who made some of the complaints about the bars.
