Ibiza gaol is having one its best ever years as far as occupancy is concerned with only 85 prisoners in a building designed for 110. In past years as many as 170 prisoners have been squeezed into the building, making solitary confinement a virtual impossibility.
The prison authorities say that the new system of rapid justice, where cases are put through the courts in a matter of hours, has helped to decrease the numbers. Another good reason to avoid incarceration there is the rumour that it is possible to hear the music from the Space terrace every day, making Ibiza just as popular as Guantanamo Bay.
It probably won't be a surprise to learn that 75% of the inmates are there on drugs related offences, and 50% are foreigners!
