There was an avalanche of elderly people on Saturday as the travel agents opened their doors to sell subsidised holidays to the island's pensioners.
All 600 available places practically ran out as our senior citizens snapped up 2 weeks travel and full board holidays on Spain's costas for about €100. This year special planes have been chartered to fly direct to the peninsula thus negating the need to travel via Palma.
In exchange, Ibiza will be receiving at least 20,000 pensioners from the mainland during the coming 'winter' months where its mild climate compares extremely favourably with the bitter cold of central Spain.
