Amateur astronomers were out in force last Wednesday as the red planet Mars came within 55 million kilometres of the white planet Ibiza, the closest it's been in 60,000 years.
Unfortunately none were able to answer the intriguing question that has puzzled generations of humankind and David Bowie, 'Is there life on Mars?'
By a quirk of fate and months of planning, the island's only astronomical observatory at Puig des Molins was closed for repairs! Not to worry, it will probably be open in 2287 when Mars returns.
