There just aren't enough coppers for the coppers!
The National police in Ibiza receive a salary which is set nationally, and they say that they just don't get enough to compensate them for the higher cost of living in Ibiza.
There are now 77 vacancies for policemen on the island and 47 agents have obtained transfers back to the mainlined this month.
The main problem is the high cost of housing which is the same as in Madrid and Barcelona, combined with the dearness of necessities in the shops caused by the lack of competition and the cost of transportation of the goods by sea or air.
The police unions say that nobody will come to work on the island unless the 'weighting allowance' is increased.
