The most famous of all Spain's hotels are its Paradors, historic old buildings such as castles, monasteries, and mansions, which have been converted by the state to provide luxurious accommodation to clients.
The town council of Ibiza wants to convert the famous castle, which can be seen dominating the city for miles around, but is in a state of some disrepair, into a Parador.
The idea is fuelled by the council's lack of funds to renovate the building, and so it has returned to the negotiating table with the company which runs the Paradors to see if it can provide funding for the project.
First mooted in 1989, the development would have accommodation, bars, a restaurant, and most importantly a lift (elevator) to the castle!
