We can truthfully say that Ibiza isn't exactly well known for its wine production. However wine is made here on a small scale at, for example, the Can Rich winery near San Antonio, and on an even smaller scale at small farms dotted about the country.
This week one such small unit has been accorded one of the highest honours in Spanish viticulture, having been selected in the top 12 wines in Spain by the experts of the prestigious magazine 'Wines of Spain.' Out of 300 different wines tasted, the wine 'Es Diví sa Selecció 2001' from the bodega Vins de Tanys Mediterranis in San Jose was adjudged one of the best. Made entirely from local varieties of grape, monastrell and garnacha, the wine is matured in American oak barrels, and has also appeared in many other gastronomic publications.
