The ancient walled area of Dalt Vila, Ibiza Old Town, is to be converted into a living, open-air museum.
Work will start in March at an envisaged cost of €600,000 to mark out the 3 historic routes which will guide visitors around the winding cobbled streets of the citadel.
The plan, formulated by The Cultural Council of the city along with a little technical help from the University of Barcelona, is to demonstrate just why Ibiza is a World Heritage City.
The entrance to Dalt Vila at the Portal de ses Taules will have a visitors' reception and information centre with multimedia cabins and audio visual projections to enable people to get an idea of the significance of the routes before setting off. The 3 routes will be clearly marked, and all along the way placards and panels will give important details of the buildings and sites encountered so that the city's historical importance will really be brought to life.
