This year's mild Autumn and Winter (apart from one cold snap) have accelerated the blossoming of the almond trees on the island by two or three weeks.
This is particularly beautiful in the Santa Ines valley, or Pla de Corona, as it is know locally, where thousands of almond trees in pinky white bloom turn an already spectacular site into a magical display of nature at its best.
The whole valley appears to be covered soft snow and is best viewed from the hills surrounding it. The early blossoming has coincided with the Festival of Santa Ines which has all the usual ingredients, music, dancing, barbecues, feasts and most unusual of all, the traditional walk from the centre of San Antonio over the hills to the village church.
