If you ever decide to go walking up Ibiza's mystical rocky crag, Es
Vedra, be sure not to fall, or a similar fate to Alejandro S. E. of Puig den Valls
could await you. Alex unfortunately fell as he was clambering up the side of Vedra,
broke his ribs and, in tremendous pain, was unable to move. Luckily his companions
were able to call 112 (the emergency number) whereupon the Guardia Civil quickly
despatched their Special Sub-Aquatic Activities group to the scene. Some time
later they decided that aqualungs and flippers were not best suited to mountain
rescue operations and so called in the Special Mountain Intervention Group who
arrived by helicopter and transferred Alex to hospital by the same method. The
quick thinking and efficiency of the authorities meant that the whole operation
only took from just after noon until 5 o'clock!
