Ibiza is now top of the league of foreign residents! On this tiny island there are now more than 13,000 foreigners who are registered as living here permanently! Over 9000 of us are from the European community and are spread all over the island, having come here to enjoy a more relaxed way of life. The others, mostly from poor South American countries and Morocco, are concentrated in Ibiza town, probably in about 2 streets of Figueretes, and have moved here to labour on building sites and sell trinkets in the 'Hippy' markets. Interestingly, with over a third of the population here having migrated from the Spanish peninsula, the native Ibicencans now comprise less than half the total population of the island which has reached 100,000! Some say it's a pity that this mix isn't reflected in the local political institutions here and that more people should exercise their right to vote.
